catch and release.

I knew this guy once who always tried to impress me. He told funny jokes, jumped off of ridiculously high fixtures, drove too fast. He would take over half of his paycheck from his job at the gas station and spend it all on a Saturday night date of dinner, movie, and Starbucks. Once I started dating this guy I didn't pay for my own meal for years.

Come to think of it, I haven't paid for my own meal since 1999.

And just when you think he has forgotten all about impressing you, he comes home from work, with a small fishing rod in one hand, a HUGE container of crickets in another, that gorgeous side grin that flashes a dimple and proudly states---

"KIDS! Come here! We're goin' fishin!!!"

And that's exactly what we did. We turned an ordinary evening in to an adventure...

I knew this man once who always tried to impress me. He worked night and day, keeping our county safe, working 80 hours a week, risking his life. He fed a family of five and paid the bills on a cop's paycheck. He began the God given call of starting a church at the age of 23. He told funny jokes, drove too fast with the blue lights on, and tears up a bit during the day when I text him pictures of the kids doing a craft or eating lunch. He spent the last bit of cash in his wallet to treat us to all to milkshakes after an evening of fishing with crickets.

We didn't catch a thing that night. But I will never let him go.
