{Welcome to our October series, "31 Days of a Small Town Gal". You are on Day 11. Missed any previous posts? Click {here} to catch up!}
If you are detoured through traffic into our small town, you will quickly realize that we have only one movie theater in our town. It has two screens. We have about 27 car lots, though. But one movie theater. And here is what you need to know:
* If you live here and you do NOT have the automated showtime recording COMPLETELY memorized, then you have not been to the two screen theater enough. Locals, say it with me: Thank you for calling The Movies 2, located at 2108 Jacksboro Pike. For additional information, call 566-0644. Now showing...
* When you drive by the theater, you automatically glance over to see what is showing. Admit it. For some reason everyone's eyes leave the road around Pizza Hut and look to see The Movies 2. I knew in the 7th grade that I needed glasses when I could no longer read the movies sign from the passenger seat in the old Dodge Dynasty. True story.
* My dad took me to see Batman at the Movies 2 when I was younger, and I "got scared" and we left and came home early. He thought for years I was scared of Batman. Nope. Nothing scary about Michael Keaton. (George Clooney as Batman, on the other hand? Frightening..). No, I was scared during the previews, that contained a claymation cartoon short. Claymation is terrifying.
* Go to the bathroom before you leave home. Please.
* When my best friend and I went to see Titanic at this theater when we were in high school, it was a packed house. And when the movie was over, people were sobbing, standing up, and applauding. Yup.
* This is the theater where we took Eden for her "first movie". It was the movie, Up. She loved it!
* They have "Stimulus Tuesday", where you can get a popcorn for $1.50, and they participate in the free summer movies for kids. And to be honest, the popcorn is pretty great.
The Movies 2. The only local theater. Where Eden thinks the Sprite just.tastes. BETTER. And the home of rowdy twelve year olds dropped off by their parents. Gotta love small town cinema!
