31 Days of a Small Town Gal (Day 14): small town sounds.

{Welcome to our October series, "31 Days of a Small Town Gal". You are on Day 14. Missed any previous posts? Click {here} to catch up!}

 There is a beauty about the sounds of a small town. Or the lack thereof. There is a certain sense of calm when you step outside and hear the UT Vols football game playing over the speakers of a radio in your neighborhood. When you can hear cheers from the football field and the beat of the marching band from your front yard. Or the sound of the train that blazes through the middle of town, and how that same sound takes you back to the days of spending the night at your grandparents' home, nestled in a warm blanket and hearing the train bellow through the screened window.

Or maybe it is the cows, the roosters, or the sounds of farm equipment in the early morning, as small town folk rise early to begin work on their homes, yards, and farms. The roar of a tractor in the afternoon as the kids rush to the window to see. The sound of casual chatter amongst familiar faces as you pass them in the aisles of a busy supermarket. Or a sense of tension as you hear sirens from a fire truck or band of police cars. Chances are, in a small town, you will somehow know the person that needs help, so you begin to pray as the light rush past, that they will get there in time.

Small town sounds. What are some of your favorites?

My boys would love seeing a tractor drive by! They run to the window to watch the garbage truck. Great post.

Hmm....we have traffic, since we are on a main road. Lots of geese squawking, the fire siren, and boats on the river. I kind of miss the cows.

Felicity: Haha! They get excited about the garbage truck at the dump as well. It seems any large, industrial vehicle is a kid magnet;)

The cows are pretty nice, and there is this random man that rides his horse with a saddle down out paved street. Hmmm...
