{Welcome to our October series, "31 Days of a Small Town Gal". You are on Day 7. Missed any previous posts? Click {here} to catch up!}
So, in {yesterday's post} I told you all about the awesome 8th anniversary dinner we had, but what I didn't tell you was about the overnight getaway we took to Gatlinburg last weekend. Brandon always takes it upon himself to plan our anniversary. I ADORE him for this. And he never disappoints. We realized that we had not went on an overnight trip together in three years. The last time was in 2009, I was pregnant with August, and we went to Gatlinburg as well. Since this was Titus' first night away from us, we again decided to stay close to our small town and head to Gatlinburg for the weekend (for our "out of state" friends, Gatlinburg is located in the Great Smoky Mountains, which is where we went {camping as a family} this summer).
I know a lot of people from our area stay in cabins in Gatlinburg, but as many times as we have been there over the years, we have never stayed in one. We did this time, and it was awesome. We stayed at Gatlinburg Falls, one of the newest cabin developments in the Smokies. They have cabins from one bedrooms to eighteen bedrooms, a pool and playground on site as well. We have to go back with the kids sometime:
We stayed in a two story cabin, which had two bedrooms, a full kitchen and laundry room, a den, two bathrooms, an upstairs "game room" with bunk beds, and a hot tub on the second floor porch. At first we didn't really know what to do with a "game room" without kids, but we totally played pool and air hockey and I totally lost at both (Remember, Cumberland girls, when we would play pool in the CC Grill, while waiting on our food? Yeah, I played like that. Only worse).
We ate at Bubba Gump's (which was delish!), strolled around holding hands with each other instead of holding a cooler, a stuffed animal, or a stray jacket, grabbed my Gran some taffy from the Smoky Mountain Candy Kitchen, and enjoyed the fall decor:
The next day, we enjoyed breakfast at a Sevierville favorite: The Smoky Mountain Pancake House:
One of us ordered a fluffy omelet with buttermilk pancakes, and the other one ordered greasy sausage, biscuits, and gravy with two scrambled eggs on the side. The waitress handed us the wrong plates initially--why in the world she thought the man wanted the sausage, biscuit and gravy plate is beyond me...
We never eat that kind of breakfast. Ugh. I was totally stuffed.
After breakfast, we perused a few flea markets and antique stores to search for any treasures. There were some really cool finds last weekend:
I also found my globe I mentioned last week on this trip:
And Brandon grabbed some scuppernongs and muscadines for the trip home:
So, needless to say, we have had an amazing 8th anniversary celebration, enjoying attractions close to our small town!

I'm so glad you got to get away and enjoy some time for the two of you. Way to go Elkins'!
Oh Aubrey, you have not tasted goodness until you've had muscadine jelly or scuppernong wine! Mmmm Mmmm ;-)
Aubrey: Muscadines are like these giant grapes, native to eastern US (I think?) And Julie is right, that muscadine jelly on a warm piece of toast is the best!
