Again. {five minute friday}

I've been pretty open about the fact that I have been dealing with a healthy dose of writer's block lately. I have sought counsel from various friends, one of which cracked me up with her antidote of "you could just go all Hemingway and drink your way through writing".

(This was ironic since I had just ordered The Paris Wife, a novel about Hemingway and his first wife, last week off of Amazon. Anyway...)

But the suggestion of joining the "five minute friday" crowd was not a new one to me. I've just been a tad intimidated.

I watched ladies at Allume bravely step on a small stage over coffee and fellowship and share, out loud, some of their amazing "five minute friday" posts. The courage of these women inspired me. It takes a lot of guts to pour your heart and soul into words, written or spoken. 

What is Five Minute Friday, you ask? It is a group of ladies that join each Friday over at {thegypsymama} (aka, the lovely Lisa Jo Baker) to write about a prompt with the basic instructions of "set your timer, clear your head, for five minutes of free writing without worrying about getting it right".

I worry about "getting it right". A LOT.

So, here we go. On my stained red couch, setting my timer for five minutes, writing on the topic presented today: "Again".

I glance at the empty, paved driveway, wondering when he will arrive home.

They call for snow and the sun beams. They call for rain and the snow falls. They call for ice and the wind blows briskly.

That is the beauty of the South; preparation is the essence of our souls. And so is sweet tea. But, the dead chill of winter rolls across our damp lawn and the frozen droplets blister the gray sky, begging for our attention.

Winter, you have us.

So, we pray for safety, warm up a warm bowl of soup, and anxiously await his arrival by checking that empty driveway. Again.
